Why I love my kids #86

Scene: My daughter starts up the conversation after we spend a few minutes feeding the ducks.

Kiki: "Mom, I don't think those ducks are friends anymore?"

Me: "Why would you say that?"

Kiki: "Because that duck was stepping all over that one, and that black one stepping on top of the other white one."

:::

Yes, it's mating season.

Yesterday a neighbor boy pointed out a broken bird egg on the sidewalk and said how sad it was that the bird never got to be born. Then he said YEP IT'S MATING SEASON.

I remember when I was young, we had 2 pet ducks who liked to roam the garden during the day. Their names? The very original Donald and Daisy. One day I looked out of my bedroom window to see Donald trampling all over Daisy, his beak had her neck pulled back and I was so shocked. I yelled out to my mum that Donald was KILLING Daisy. Mum ran in and a smile grew on her face. "Melody, "she said, "they're having sex". That shut me up pretty quickly.
